How We Evaluate
Every Game

Transparency is core to everything we do. This page explains exactly how Scarlet Etna discovers, evaluates, selects, and publishes free browser games.

Overview

Scarlet Etna operates as an independent editorial platform. Every game that appears on this site has been discovered, played, and assessed by a human member of our editorial team. We do not use automated scraping to populate our catalog, and we do not accept payments in exchange for feature placements.

Our evaluation process is designed to ensure that every game we recommend is genuinely free, genuinely fun, and genuinely appropriate for an adult (18+) audience — with no real-money mechanics of any kind.

Selection Criteria

What We Look For

Genuinely Free

The game must be 100% free to access and play. No paywall, no mandatory registration, no deposit of any kind. Games with optional paid cosmetics are evaluated case by case, but the core experience must be fully free.

No Real-Money Mechanics

Any game that involves wagering real money, purchasing virtual currency with real money for gameplay advantage, or any form of monetary prize is immediately disqualified. This is a firm, non-negotiable rule.

Gameplay Quality

We assess core loop depth, controls responsiveness, onboarding clarity, and replayability. A game must offer more than surface-level engagement — we want titles people will genuinely return to.

Browser Performance

All featured games must run reliably in a standard browser without plugins or downloads. We test on multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and screen sizes. Poor performance is grounds for rejection.

Adult Suitability (18+)

Content must be appropriate for an adult audience and clearly not targeted at minors. This includes visual design, themes, and any social or community features the game includes.

Source Legitimacy

We verify that the game is offered by its legitimate developer or authorized host. We do not link to pirated, cloned, or unauthorized versions of games. Developer attribution is checked and verified.

Publication Process

From Discovery to Publication

01
Discovery

Games are surfaced through active browsing of browser game directories, developer portfolios, social communities, and recommendations from our audience. Team members also submit candidates from personal gaming sessions. We maintain a running backlog of candidates awaiting review.

02
Initial Screening

Before any hands-on testing, a candidate undergoes a rapid eligibility check: is it free? Does it involve real money? Is it browser-based? Is it 18+-appropriate? Is it from a legitimate source? Candidates that fail any of these checks are dropped immediately.

03
Hands-On Evaluation

Qualifying candidates are assigned to an editor who plays the game for a minimum of 30 minutes across multiple sessions. The editor scores the game against our published criteria. Notes are logged in our internal review system.

04
Editorial Review

The evaluation notes are reviewed by a second team member for quality assurance. Any discrepancies or concerns are discussed before a final decision is made. This two-stage review prevents single-editor bias.

05
Content Creation

Approved games are written up by our editorial team. Copy includes a description of the game, attribution to the developer, genre and platform details, and an honest assessment of what makes it worth playing. We do not copy developer marketing copy verbatim.

06
Publication & Monitoring

Live content is monitored regularly. If a previously free game introduces real-money mechanics, goes offline, or becomes unavailable, it is removed or updated immediately. Our catalog is reviewed in full every 90 days.
